American InterContinental University was founded in 1970 in Europe. The first campus on the territory of the United States was established in 1977 in Atlanta-Buckhead. In 1982 an affiliate was founded in Los Angeles. In 2001 the online campus was launched and it was recognized as a separate affiliate in 2002. The University offers Associate, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in almost all spheres (criminal justice, business, design and media arts, and education, engineering, and information technology). It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
